How to play MusicGuesser

A song plays for 0.1 seconds. Name it. That is the whole game — everything below is detail.

A round, step by step

  1. Press play. You hear 0.1 seconds, and you can replay it as often as you like.
  2. Type a title or artist into the search box and pick the track you think it is.
  3. Wrong, or not sure? Skip. The clip grows to the next length and you keep everything you have already heard.
  4. After five skips you are at 20 seconds. Guess right and you win the round; give up and the answer is revealed.

Questions

How does MusicGuesser work?
You hear 0.1 seconds of a song and name it. Get it wrong or skip, and the clip grows: 0.1s, 1s, 3s, 7s, 12s, 20s across five skips. Naming it early is worth more than naming it late.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play the daily challenge and the endless playlists as a guest. An account only matters if you want your results kept — streaks, statistics and a rating are saved to your profile, and guest rounds are not recorded at all.
Is MusicGuesser free?
Yes, entirely. There is no payment, no advertising and no tracking.
Is MusicGuesser like Heardle?
The idea is the same — a song guessing game that starts with a clip too short to recognise and grows each time you skip. Heardle was closed by Spotify in May 2023. MusicGuesser runs a daily challenge in several genres rather than one song for everybody, adds an endless mode with no daily limit, and keeps a rating and rank for each player.
Can I play more than once a day?
Yes. The daily challenge is one attempt per genre per day, but endless mode has no limit — you can keep guessing through any playlist for as long as you like, and those rounds count towards your rating too.
What is the daily challenge?
One song a day in each genre — everybody gets the same track, and you get one attempt. It resets at 00:00 UTC. Winning on consecutive days builds a streak, kept per genre.
How is my rating calculated?
Everyone starts at 1000. Your rating is played against the song rather than against other people: every track carries its own rating too, so naming one that beats most players is worth more than naming an obvious one, and each win over a track lowers what the next win over it pays. Winning faster scores higher; running out of skips costs rating. Ratings settle after 20 rounds, before which they are marked provisional.
What are the ranks?
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster — Bronze at the bottom, Grandmaster at the top. The bands are fitted to how players actually score, so every one of them is occupied rather than being a number nobody reaches.
Where does the music come from?
Song previews and cover art are provided by Deezer, and playback comes from their servers. No audio is hosted here. Playlists follow live charts, so they change as the charts do.
Can I see previous daily answers?
Yes. Every past daily challenge has a page with the answer and how everyone did on it — how many people played, what share solved it, and how long they needed. Only days that are over are published, so nothing there can spoil a challenge still in play.
Why can I only hear a fraction of a second?
That is the game. 0.1 seconds is roughly one drum hit or one syllable, and recognising a song from it is the thing worth doing. If you cannot, you skip, and you can hear up to 20 seconds before the round ends.
